Partner of woman held in Russia calls for her release
The partner of a woman who has been detained in Russia for alleged political activities is calling for her immediate release.
Speaking at a press conference today, John Doe pleaded for the Russian authorities to release his partner, Jane Smith, who has been held in custody for several weeks.
“Jane is a peaceful activist who has been unfairly targeted by the Russian government for her advocacy work,” said Doe. “She has done nothing wrong and should be released immediately.”
Smith was arrested last month during a protest in Moscow and has been charged with inciting unrest and spreading propaganda against the government. Human rights groups have condemned her detention as a violation of her right to free speech.
Doe has vowed to continue campaigning for Smith’s release and called on the international community to put pressure on the Russian government to respect human rights.
