The Emotional Struggle

Harry Dunn second funeral ‘much harder’ for family

The family of Harry Dunn, a British teenager killed in a car crash involving an American diplomat’s wife, held a second funeral for him which they described as ‘much harder’ than the first.

The 19-year-old was killed when his motorbike collided with a car driven by Anne Sacoolas, the wife of a US diplomat, outside a US military base in Northamptonshire in August 2019. Sacoolas claimed diplomatic immunity and left the UK, sparking an international controversy.

Harry’s family have been fighting for justice for their son, calling for Sacoolas to return to the UK to face trial. The second funeral was held to commemorate what would have been Harry’s 21st birthday, as well as to keep his memory alive and continue their campaign for justice.

Speaking about the second funeral, Harry’s mother Charlotte Charles said, “It was much harder this time around. It was Harry’s 21st birthday and while we were celebrating his life, we were also reminded of the pain of his loss and the injustice of not having Anne Sacoolas held accountable for his death.”

The family have vowed to keep fighting for justice and have urged the US government to waive Sacoolas’ diplomatic immunity so she can return to the UK and face justice. They have also called for changes to diplomatic immunity laws to prevent similar tragedies from happening in the future.

Despite the pain and hardship they have faced, Harry’s family remain resolute in their quest for justice and hope that one day they will see those responsible held accountable for their actions.
