UN says rape likely committed in Hamas attack
The United Nations has reported that rape was likely committed during an attack by Hamas militants in a recent conflict.
The report, released by the UN’s Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, details numerous incidents of sexual violence against women and girls in Gaza during the conflict.
“The use of rape as a tactic of war is abhorrent and a serious violation of international humanitarian law,” said UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet.
The report calls on Hamas to investigate these allegations and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
It also urges the international community to support efforts to prevent rape and other forms of sexual violence in conflict zones.
