Alleged Red Army Faction member held after 30 years
An alleged member of the notorious Red Army Faction, a left-wing militant group that terrorized West Germany in the 1970s and 1980s, has been arrested after nearly 30 years on the run.
The man, whose identity has not been revealed, was arrested in a small town in eastern Germany after a tip-off from an anonymous source. He is believed to have been involved in a number of high-profile attacks carried out by the Red Army Faction, including bombings, kidnappings, and assassinations.
The Red Army Faction, also known as the Baader-Meinhof Group, was responsible for a wave of violence in West Germany during the Cold War era. The group was famously linked to the kidnapping and murder of industrialist Hanns Martin Schleyer in 1977, as well as the assassination of West German prosecutor-general Siegfried Buback in 1977.
The arrest of this alleged former member of the Red Army Faction has brought renewed attention to the group’s violent past and its lasting impact on German society. Authorities are now working to determine the man’s exact role in the group and to bring him to justice for his alleged crimes.
