India frees disabled academic jailed for Maoist links
India has released disabled academic G.N. Saibaba, who was jailed in 2014 for alleged links to Maoist rebels.
Saibaba, who is wheelchair-bound and suffers from several health issues, was serving a life sentence for his alleged involvement in Maoist activities.
His release comes after years of international pressure and calls for his release from human rights organizations.
Although Saibaba has been released from prison, he still faces restrictions on his movement and communication.
Many are hopeful that his release will pave the way for a more inclusive and just society in India.
