UN chief urges probe into deadly Gaza aid convoy incident
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has called for a thorough investigation into the deadly incident involving a Gaza aid convoy.
Guterres expressed his deep concern over the violence that erupted during the convoy’s attempt to deliver much-needed humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.
He stressed the importance of ensuring the safety and security of humanitarian workers and civilians in conflict zones, and called for accountability for those responsible for the violence.
The Secretary-General also reiterated the UN’s commitment to providing assistance to the people of Gaza and called for all parties to uphold their obligations under international humanitarian law.
He urged all parties to exercise restraint and work towards a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Gaza.
UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric stated that the Secretary-General is closely monitoring the situation and is in contact with all relevant parties to support efforts to investigate the incident and prevent further violence.
It is expected that a formal investigation into the incident will be launched in the coming days.
