US Court Halts Texas Border Law

Top US court pauses controversial Texas border law

The Supreme Court of the United States has put a hold on a controversial Texas law that would have allowed private citizens to sue anyone who helps a woman get an abortion after about six weeks of pregnancy.

The law, known as SB8, has faced widespread criticism and legal challenges since it was enacted in September 2021. The court’s decision to pause the law comes after a group of abortion providers and advocates filed an emergency application asking the justices to block the enforcement of the law.

The case is expected to be reviewed by the Supreme Court in the coming months, with both sides presenting arguments on the constitutionality of the law.
